"...that comment by Dr Norberg is probably a wrong interpenetration of the results."

Thought I'd start with that enigmatic* quote because it really freudened up my day.

1. phrtao has it partly right, buying a vapouriser is the best idea. The US Govt. and its waddly allies) could soon save hundreds of $bil. a year (military and other costs) by a one-time expense of buying a vapouriser for each of the 1.2 billion $igarette addicts on the planet. The $200-bil. 1998 Clinton-Gore Settlement should have been used for this, instead local govts. hijacked it for roads and schools, the usual stuff.

2. Don't throw away all your smoking equipment unless, miserably, you have absolutely no one-hitter. There turns out to be a way to use a one-hitter for vapourising, much cheaper but almost as good as a topranking plug-in machine.

a. Herb must be sifted** to uniform particle size, minus stems, which makes it easy to vapourise out the cannabinoids.

b. Your one-hitter must have a screen*** so that small particles aren't in danger of being drawn down into the channel. This makes it possible to use the sifted herb, duh.

c. You should have a long flexible drawtube attached to your one-hitter so you can see what you are doing during the hereinafter-described "lighting" process, also it gives the vapors extra time to cool down before they reach your trachea.

d. Point the craterhead down in the herb cannister or pouch and root around while sucking, aiming at loading in a 25-mg. serving, then turn upright.

e. Leaning it slightly so you can see what happens to the load, hold a moderate lighter flame about an inch or 2-cm. below the opening while sucking. Count seconds so you are conscious of how much time you give to this. During the first ten seconds of steady slow sucking you want the herb NOT to catch on fire (the bright glow you know) but just darken a bit, showing that it is drying out from successful removal of THC. Ignore an exposed particle or two which ignites during this time.

f. When eventually the main mass of herb starts glowing, just keep drawing slow and holding the heat supply underneath. Whichever particles are burning are supplying some heat to finish harvesting THC from last unburnt ones.

g. Then do thirty warm wet W's in and out of a goetterdaemmer lunchbag to catch previously unabsorbed THC.

Once you have mastered the above disciplined method a cheap one-hitter made of parts costing pennies is ALMOST as good as a vapouriser, but phrtao is right, get a vapouriser if you can afford it. For more info on one-hitters, including national varieties chilmette, kiseru, midwakh, sebsi, see recently improved Wikipedia articles.

Tobacco has always been what worries me about cannabis smoking in Britain. I am weening myself off tobacco by halfing the quantity of tobacco I put in a joint, keeping the length and quantity of bud the same. Contrary to what I thought I would find I am enjoying it more, partly because I can taste more and partly beacause it affects me more. Oddly the joint also seems to last as long (so no decrease in length of enjoyment) and I am experienciing no increase in my overall intake as phsicologically i'm tricked into thinking i've smoked the same amount of tobacco as always.
I did try rolling pure straight off but felt the smoke didn't satisfyingly fill my lungs, perhaps partly because I was skimping on pot, trying to roll a very thin joint that wouldn't burn properly; but also because I got no nicotine.
I'll try a fatter pure one soon.

Over 20 years experience of people who use cannabis has taught me that cannabis mixed with tobacco is a dangerous substance worthy of most of the reputation given to cannabis alone (by the prohibitionists). Mixing with tobacco also hides the awful quality of much of the cannabis available by masking the taste and lack of high (tobacco is not an inert substance and makes a significant part the high experienced).

I was told when I first smoked that you had to mix cannabis with tobacco but in those days it was nearly always hash so you needed a pipe or a tobacco mixture. When weed became more popular the myth changed to being - it makes your weed go further or it would simply be too strong without tobacco (take fewer puffs then you idiots).

I know so many people who are addicted to tobacco via this route. But worse still they are addicted to the mixture. A pure cannabis high is not what they want and neither is a cigarette. So they spend all their leisure time (occasionally ALL their time) smoking a cannabis/tobacco mixture. All the persuading and talking will not change their minds especially when cannabis is in short supply (for most smokers) - they believe they will smoke as many joints when they are pure and therefore use far too much cannabis.

There is really only is one way to kick the smoking habit - buy a vaporiser and throw away all your smoking apparatus (just like a cigarette smoker who wishes to quit). Vaporising also gives the best effect from cannabis without most of the harmful effects associated with smoking and you end up using much less as well !
